Title: Loving What Can Die
Note: About Elena Scott, an OC of Ella's... and brief mentions about all the losses that those of the Crowbar have suffered, but mostly about Elena. Inspired by this picture prompt
It was her hand sticking out of the wreckage.
Sonny did not have to wonder or question it. He knew.
The hand had been burned terribly, broken in too many places. He reached for the hand but he did not pull it.
When he first met Elena, she was much younger. It was years ago, and he grabbed her by her hand and pulled her from the sidewalk. She had been lost, and he had gotten in the habit of saving those who are lost, who he senses possibility in, who he knows deserves more than what the universe has ladled them with.
He wanted to help her. While the effort to change may have been about making up past sins, he has reached out to every family member, to help them and bring them into the fold because he wanted to. There has been this connection that he has had with each of them. Sometimes the connection doesn't open up until years down the road, but it goes straight to his heart and it means caring about them sometimes before he even knows all the reasons why.
Sonny watched her grow in his company. He helped her learn how to control her demon, and he began to know her first as the broken girl that he found on the sidewalk and then as the woman that she grew into, and there was never a time that he did not consider her one of his own.
She had a gentleness that had been like anyone else that he has ever met. She had a quiet presence that was comforting even when she wasn't saying a damn thing. She didn't have to say a damn thing at all. And that's beautiful. For someone like Sonny who uses so many fucking words always feeling the need to get his point across, she made a quiet, powerful impact without saying one word.
Sonny has seen her broken, seen her crying. The whole Crowbar family has seen each other at their worst. It always hurts him to see but it was different with her. It became different with her. It felt wrong and right how his feelings shifted, and he had no way of knowing they would.
Yeah, the problem's when you've got no idea what it is you need to do, right? She said that to him once, and it may have been true for him with her. He did not know what was right or he thought he did, but now he knows he was wrong.
He never told her, because she had to view him like that father that had taken her and saved her, nothing else. He never told her, because the timing was never right. He never told her, because he thought it'd ruin something.
All these fucking excuses. The truth is.
The truth is... he never told her, because he was scared, because he was certain bridging that gap between the two of them meant he'd be the end of her. And now she's going, and all he wants
One day, she was a broken girl and years later, she grew into a woman and he loved her.
Sonny loves her.
It is not past tense. She is dead. She is buried under wreckage along with the corpses of so many others.

I can still remember when we hadn't made their journals (or rather, I had a journal but NO IDEA what PB to use, I was gonna use Ewan McGregor at first and then I switched and ten I switched AGAIN and was never content till Ryan :x) yet and we just had this vaguest idea of wanting to write brothers and wanting to have a bar for them/their group. They hadn't fully formed in our heads but we were so excited by the possibility of new characters, new world, new location in BTR.
Cut to now when they're... not only fully formed in our heads but just, totally came to life on their own and the vague idea turned into one of the biggest plots/character arcs I've ever had in my life. I LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WITH SONNY and I'm... so happy you picked him up and play the brother to my character bc he is one of the most fantastic characters I've seen from you, not even kidding.
It hurts to see how he views himself and how differently he views everyone else. How he has so much wonderful advice for people and helps them fulfill their goals and do the right thing for themselves but because of the guilt or the things of the past he isn't abe to do that/see that for himself. ;_______________________;

I remember that too! I remember reading your very first fic with him, and it's such a surprise to see all that we have built from your initial concept of John. It's just-- WOAH. We are fucking amazing is all I can say to that. Cause seriously. SERIOUSLY.
They have come to life so strongly, and I never would have imagined all that we would have built for/from them. There are AUs. There are so many levels of relationships and family and just-- everything ever. There are long, complicated pasts together and potential futures and the people who were in their pasts and fff /BOUNCES. AND ZOMG OMG ;_; That makes me so happy how much that you love him, and I'm... yes, I am so glad that you think that he is fantastic.
He has been one of my most favorite characters to write and develop, and I would never have done so if not for your suggestion and writing him off your characters is what developed him into who he IS. I love it.
Fff yeah, i would say HE IS TOO OLD TO EVER LIKE SEE HIMSELF DIFFERENTLY OR TO EVER HAVE SOMETHING WITH SOMEONE but Robin completely surprised me with that. Then again, Sonny is older than Robin and his issues are much different so idek, but yeah. ;_; I don't think he'll ever see himself differently but. and after losing Elena idek if he would feel that way about another woman but.
